Promo from Hell, Aisle 7

I think I need to break up with my local food retailer. Our relationship is not sustainable. Regrettably, he is not a very good communicator. You have to understand: I am a shopper; it’s something I like to do. You also need to know that I hate to waste things — especially money and time.

As one of two parents responsible for the well-being of kids who burn through clothes and like to eat good food, I am my family’s primary purchasing agent. I take my fiduciary responsibility very seriously (some say a little too seriously) each and every time I go to the store. For me, shopping can be fun., and what I enjoy most about shopping is figuring out what is the “smart buy” for me and my family. And if I find a good price on a staple, I’ll go long and buy deep.

Smart buy decisions factor in both price and quality, including reliability, convenience, and social/environmental impact. As consumers, we get to weigh each of these factors differently as we see fit, and vary them across all categories — be it housing, transportation, food, or clothing.  (I am very price sensitive when it comes to clothing, but my Parmigiano Cheese needs to be imported).
