David Letterman calls him “the czar of Broadway.” And with hit after threatre hit, it’s an apt description. But Nathan Lane will be ending his role as Gomez in The Addams Family on March 6th of 2011. There’s no drama behind the scenes, mind you. That date is simply the end of Lane’s current contract, which he was not expected to renew.
Replacing Lane in the role of Addams family patriarch, Gomez, is Roger Rees. Rees is a British actor who created the title role in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s “The Adventures of Nicholas Nickelby.” He also appeared with Addams Family matriarch, Bebe Neuwirth, when she starred in the popular “Cheers” TV series. Neuwirth is staying with the Broadway show beyond Nathan Lane’s departure.
